Security

infoIf your Issue is:
How can I contact Security out of hours?

Answer:
From 7:00am - 8:00pm ring 01285 652531, from 8:00pm - 7:00am call 07960031821. There is also a 24/7 emergency landline number 01285 889834. For life threatening emergencies call 999. For non life threatening issues call police on 101 or medical services on 111. 

Always tell the Porters Lodge or Security if you have to call emergency services so that they can direct them to you quickly.

Security are based in the Porters Lodge.










Sexism

problemIf your Issue is:
I've been subject to sexist remarks


Answer:
Report it to the SPOC (single person of contact) Steve Martin, Security and Student Conduct Manager.

You can also contact the Student Support Services team on student.services@rau.ac.uk.  It's important you let someone know what is happening.


Sexual health

Answer:
A sexual health clinic operates from the University Health / Medical centre during term time please see the University Support Services Gateway page for details.


Shop

informationIf your Issue is:
I forgot to buy milk! Is there a shop on campus?


Answer:
There is an on campus shop situated at the back of the Retreat Coffee Shop. You can buy essentials like milk, washing powder, pens and some RAU branded goods such as an eco friendly refillable travel mug.

Socialising

How can I meet new people? I'm really shy

Answer:
The STARs run events and provide advice for student life.  You can also speak to the Student Support Services team  who are located in the Student Support Services Hub  in the Emrys Jones Centre. 


Societies

What societies can I join?

Answer:
Visit the Student Union Office situated in the Log Cabin next to Cedar Lodge or email zac.missen@rausu.co.uk. The STARs also arrange events on a regular basis and they can be found in the Student Support Services Hub in the Emrys Jones Centre. 


Special needs

healthIf your Issue is:
Who can help me with my Dyslexia/ Autism/ Aspergers/ ADHD?

Answer:

Let the University know as far in advance as possible. Contact the Disability & Inclusive Learning Advisor who is based in the Student Hub, Emrys Jones Centre. You will be offered an appointment to discuss what adjustments are possible to support you.

Stalking

problemIf your Issue is:

Someone is following me

Answer:
Please report this to the police.  Student Support Services staff can also help you with this. If you need support outside office hours the Porters Lodge will be able to contact the Duty Officer for you.  They can be contacted from 7:00am - 8:00pm ring 01285 652531, from 8:00pm - 7:00am call 07960031821. It is important you let someone know what is happening.

STARs

What are STARs and what do they do?

Answer: STARs are student ambassadors who are trained to offer peer-to-peer support. You can find out more about STARs on the University Support Services Gateway page.

You can also contact student.services@rau.ac.uk if you would like the opportunity to become a STAR.

Struggling academically

academicIf your Issue is:
I just don't get it!

Answer:

If this feeling is due to a particular module, then it is best to discuss it with your Module Leader as they are best placed to help you with alternative learning strategies. If it's University learning in general, you might want to talk to your Personal Tutor who can look at things more holistically and help you understand why you are struggling. 


It might be that you are dyslexic and never knew or you just haven't been given the opportunity to develop your learning skills. For advice and support, contact the Disability and Inclusive Learning Advisor on enable@rau.ac.uk or pop into the Student Hubb in Emrys Jones. Be assured at RAU we want every student to reach their full potential. You may need to push yourself, but we are here to help you.

Answer:
Yes. Speak to the finance team by emailing studentfees@rau.ac.uk and they will be able to advise you.

Student Lounge

informationIf your Issue is:  
I enjoy socialising but I choose not to drink alcohol. Is there anywhere I can relax that is an alcohol free zone? 

Answer:
The Student Lounge is a relaxing, alcohol free zone. It is situated in The Main Building behind the Porters Lodge, between The Chapel and Tithe Barn.  It is often the location for events organised by the STARs.

Where can I find Student Support Services?

Answer: Student Support Services are located in the Student Support Services Hub in the Emrys Jones Centre. Where is the Student Union located? 


Answer:
The Student Union Office is situated in the Log Cabin next to Cedar Lodge. Daily communications about Student Union and campus activities can be found on the RAU Student Community Facebook page or you can email zac.missen@rausu.co.uk.

Your Module Leaders are best placed to help you with specific subject areas, but for help with general revision technique and exam preparation, see the Study Skills page on Gateway, and also the Library page. Your Personal Tutor would also be happy to share some general hints and tips with you.

Student Support Services staff are available to help you. Please call in as soon as you can to discuss this further and get help. For life threatening emergencies call 999 or in non threatening emergencies call Police on 101 or medical services on 111. Please don't suffer alone.

Surgery

healthIf your Issue is:
I need an operation

Answer:

If you have to miss University to undergo a medical procedure, speak to your Personal Tutor and email absence@rau.ac.uk. You may need to apply for an extension or deferral, so contact extensions@rau.ac.uk or student.services@rau.ac.uk who will be able to help.

Remember to advise the University when you return to your studies.
