Hobbies

infoIf your Issue is:
Who shares my interests?

Answer:
Visit the Student Union Office which is situated in the Log Cabin next to Cedar Lodge. The SU runs events and societies and are always open to suggestions and ideas for new groups. The Community Assistants also run events and would love to hear your ideas, they can be found by visiting the Student Support Services Hub in the Emrys Jones Centre.


Home sickness

probkemIf your Issue is:
I really miss home!

Answer:
Visit Student Support Services Hub where you will be able to talk to someone and they will be able to put you in touch with the Community Assistants who are available to help you settle in.

Homophobia

problemIf your Issue is:
I'm being verbally abused because I'm gay/trans/non-binary.

Answer:
Harassment of any description is not tolerated at RAU.

Report it to the SPOC (single person of contact) which is Steve Martin, Security and Student Conduct Manager.  Contact details: steve.martin@rau.ac.uk.

Hospitalisation

HealthIf your Issue is:
I've got to go into hospital - what do I do about my studies?

Answer:
Notify your Academic Support Tutor that you will be away from studies. Once you are feeling up to it contact Student Support Services Hub who will guide you through how to apply for a deferral or extension. If this is accepted you will be allowed extra time to submit coursework.

Housemates

problemIf your Issue is:
I can't get on with a housemate.

Answer:
Visit the Accommodation Office or e-mail hannah.mathison@rau.ac.uk. A meeting will be arranged to discuss options for alternative accommodation if necessary. If you live off site and have a problem with your housemates  visit Student Support Services who can provide advice.

I

Illness

healthIf your Issue is:
I feel really ill and can't get into University.

Answer:

If you are too ill to attend University, you must let your Academic Support Tutor know and email absence@rau.ac.uk. If your illness affects the hand in date of an assignment you must contact extensions@rau.ac.uk who will request evidence of your condition. Also see Health / Medical Centre.

IT

problemIf your Issue is:
My laptop or mobile won't connect!

Answer:
If you have any IT issues please contact the IT Service Desk in person in the Library Foyer, by phone on 01285 889 841 or by email at IT.Service.Desk@rau.ac.uk (open Monday to Friday from 8:30am - 5:30pm).

Late hand-in

academicIf your Issue is:
I missed the hand-in! What next?

Answer:
You can submit up to one week late but your mark for that module will be capped at 40%. If you have applied and been granted an extension, it will provide you with an opportunity to submit the work and receive an uncapped mark. Further details can be found on the RAU Website in the RAU Academic Policies and Procedures -  Academic Regulations Part 1, Sections 5 and 6.

Laundry

informationIf your Issue is:  
Is there somewhere on campus where I can do my laundry? 

Answer:
Yes.  There is a launderette on campus situated on the corner of Bledisloe Court. Machines are operated through an app called Circuit and detergent can be purchased from the campus shop If there is a fault with the machines you can either report it directly or advise the Lodge staff who will report it for you.

Laundry cards are available from the lodge for a £2 deposit.

Learning Support

academicIssue:
I need learning support due to dyslexia or autism – who should I tell, what help can I get?

Answer:
Let the University know as far in advance as possible. You can contact the Disability and Inclusive Learning Advisor using student.services@rau.ac.uk. An appointment will be arranged to discuss what adjustments are possible.
